A man has been found guilty of murder following a fatal stabbing in Islington.

Bradley Wood, 25, (1.11.92) of no fixed address was found guilty at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, 28 November, of the murder of Lee Hatley.

He was also found guilty of assault causing grievous bodily harm against a 22-year-old woman.

Wood will be sentenced at the same court on Friday, 1 December.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Whellams of the Homicide and Major Crime Command said: “This was a brutal murder, and an attack which left a young woman seriously injured.

“I hope that today’s verdicts provide some comfort to Mr Hatley’s family, and to the young woman who was seriously assaulted by Wood.”

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 02:04hrs on 26 June to a residential property in Westcliffe House on Baxter Road, N1.

Officers and London’s Air Ambulance attended and found 29-year-old Lee – who was known to family and friends as Lee J – and a woman suffering stab injuries.

They were both taken to an east London hospital where Lee J later died. A post-mortem examination found cause of death to be stab injuries.

The woman remained in hospital for a number of days for treatment to stab wounds. She is still recovering from her injuries.

Detectives from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command began an investigation and quickly identified Wood as a suspect.

A manhunt was launched and a media appeal asking the public for information to find him was issued on 29 June.

Wood handed himself into Islington police station the following day where he was arrested. He was charged on 1 July.
