Omonia bounced back from their shock 2-1 defeat at Pafos FC on the weekend by thrashing title rivals AEK Larnaca on Wednesday night.

Pambos Christodoulou’s men were accused of being wasteful in their shock defeat in Paphos over the weekend but there were no such problems against fellow title challengers AEK on Wednesday at a near-empty GSP Stadium – due to the home club’s stadium ban.

Omonia had raced into a 4-1 lead at halftime before it finished 5-2 at the final whistle.

Renato Margaca and Matt Derbyshire had taken advantage of some poor defending to put their side 2-0 ahead inside the opening ten minutes before Jorge Larena reduced the scoring from a freekick on 19 minutes.

AEK’s hopes were hit again minutes later when Daniel Mojsov turned a corner past his own keeper before Alex Soares made it four on the half-hour.

Demetris Christofi added a fifth after some good work from Kanu just after the restart before Mojsov scored a late consolation goal for Imanol Idiakez’s side.

AEK – who had a 100% record with three wins out of three and none conceded heading into Wednesday night’s game – remain second while Anorthosis are first by one point.

Omonia moved up to fourth.
