The owner of a Greek restaurant described on the website TripAdvisor as “the dirtiest in the world” has been banned from running restaurants indefinitely.

 

Zorba’s Greek Taverna in Bayswater, London, was littered with cockroach eggs and mouse droppings when it was raided by health and safety officers. Live sewer flies were found in a tahini dip. Pavlos Pittas, 60, admitted four charges of failing to protect food from vermin, making it unfit for human consumption.

Judge Margot Coleman fined his company, Le Palefco, £12,800 at Westminster magistrates’ court, and said that Mr Pittas, who had a previous conviction from 2008, had a “complete disregard” for hygiene regulations.

 

“Prohibition orders are not made often and only in the most extreme circumstances,” she added. “
