A man has been sentenced to a year in prison for using racially aggravated threatening, abusive words or behaviour, and assaulting a police officer.

Dale Rydqvist, aged 25, of Lewis Crescent in Brent, North West London, pleaded guilty to the offences and was sentenced at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 27 July.

The incident happened on 25 February at Victoria station in London.

Rydqvist had been on a Gatwick Express train service and was abusive and aggressive to the train guard and threatened him with a bottle.

Officers met the service and arrested the man on the platform at Victoria station.

During the arrest, Rydqvist was violent and racially abusive to officers and staff.

Rydqvist had to be restrained on the floor whilst officers arrested him, and he bit an officer’s leg whilst on the ground.

He continued to be racially abusive and aggressive.

Investigating officer, Det Con Ian Hockridge, said: “Staff and members of the public should be able to go about their daily business without fear of being abused or assaulted. Police officers place themselves in danger every day dealing with people like Rydqvist so it is a great result when these people are given prison sentences.”
