KOPA League Challenge Cup
First round
Apoel 3 Omonia 3 Apoel won 5-3 after extra time
What a great game at Haringey Borough stadium on Wednesday night in front of a big crowd so exciting the game was that the fans were still there at the final whistle. Four goals were scored in the space of ten minutes right at the start.
Second Division Champions Apoel got off to a good start by taking the lead early with Alex Violaris Omonia equalised with a great goal from Chris Philippou who turned a defender and curled the ball into the back of the net. Again Apoel took the lead when George Sifonios scored with a close range shot. Chris Philippou scored again to make it 2-2 with a shot from the edge of the box.
Vincent Lwanga made it 3-2 for Apoel scoring from a cross in the middle stages of the second half Alex Anderson made it 3-3 after a darting run into the box to equalise for Omonia and take the game into extra time.
It was now who was the fittest and who was going to last longer and Apoel regained the lead when Adam Lambrou scored from a cross from the right and the finishing touches came from a lob over the Omonia defence left Apoel’s Michael Spencer on his own one to one with the keeper who he side stepped to score and give Apoel a cup win and a path into the next round.
