An evacuation was ordered at Larnaca airport after authorities were alerted of a suspicious object that resembled an explosive device.

The suspicious object, said to resemble a shoebox wrapped tightly in duct tape, was found in a trash can in the departure hall of Larnaca Airport, near the check-in counters at around 7:15pm.

An evacuation of the departure hall was ordered immediately, until investigations were made and bomb disposal experts ascertained whether the object was harmless.

Around 8:30pm, police spokesperson Andreas Angelides said that bomb disposal experts confirmed the object is harmless, and that operations at Larnaca airport would resume normally.
