Cyprus National football teams drew 0-0 with Estonia on Saturday night at the GSP stadium in Nicosia. The game was for the fifth game day of the eighth qualifying group of the World Cup 2018.
Cyprus had possession of the ball for most of the game with possession rate being 72% for Cyprus at a certain point of the first half. However ball possession was not enough as the Cypriot side did not manage to score. Christophi, Kastanos and Mitides had their chances to open the score in the first half but missed the target. The Estonians on the other hand, had the chance to go ahead with the only chance they created, with Zenjov’s shot hitting the post at 31’.
The second half was balanced with both teams having their share of chances; however no goals were to be scored. Cyprus missed an excellent chance to leave with the three points when Christophi’s excellent attempt was stopped by the Estonian keeper’s left post.
Both teams were left with a point, bringing their total accumulation to fur points each.
Cyprus head coach, Christakis Christophorou said that he was disappointed by the result, but extremely satisfied by his players’ efforts.
“The players did what they could. We were in charge for most of the game, we created our chances. We badly wanted to win but we didn’t make it and the lads are very disappointed” added Christophorou.
