Six fire engines and thirty five firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a suspected cannabis factory inside a terraced house on Durnsford Road, Wood Green last night.

The roof of the property and staircase was gutted by the fire along with three quarters of the ground floor and half of the first floor leaving the house uninhabitable.  Fortunately no one was in the property at the time of the blaze and neighbours either side self evacuated before the Brigade arrived. There are no reports of any injuries.

The cause of the fire is thought to be due to the failure of the electrical supply equipment on the ground floor.

There were no smoke alarms fitted in the property.  A Brigade spokesman said:

“Everyone should have at least one smoke alarm on every level of their home and the safest option is to have those linked together. This will give you the earliest warning in the event of a fire and buy you vital time to escape.”

Fire crews from Southgate, Hornsey, Tottenham and Finchley attended the incident.  They were called at 2155 and the fire was under control by 0007.
