Eleven suspected unlicensed and illegal gaming machines were seized on Monday (12 December) as part of an Enfield Council clampdown of illegal gambling.

Officers from the Council’s Licensing Enforcement Team, the police, HM Revenue and Customs, and the Gambling Commission visited seven premises and seized 11 gaming machines believed to be illegal.

They were seized from unlicensed social clubs and one restaurant, rather than in regulated gaming establishments. It is currently unknown how much money is in the machines and their respective owners have 28 days to come forward to prove that they are not illegal.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Daniel Anderson, said: “The Gambling Commission has made us aware of the links between unlicensed betting terminals and organised crime, and we are doing our bit to fight this as well as tackling the scourge of gambling addiction in this borough.”
