Enfield’s newest park opened  (15 December). Located south of the North Circular Road, the park has a new Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) and bespoke play space, fully paid for by Fairview Homes at a cost of £140k.

The park, called Bowes Meadow, has a large play space comprising of swings, basket seats, a jungle area, ground trampolines and landscaping. The MUGA has a fenced all-weather surface and is marked out for football and basketball with hoops and goal posts.

It can be found at the end of Cherry Blossom Close and Millicent Grove in Palmers Green and is open 365 days a year.

Enfield Council gained the land after negotiation with Fairview who acquired the adjacent area for housing from what was once private land. Fairview also paid for the play equipment, sports courts and landscaping. Local residents were consulted on what they wanted to see there, and once agreed, Enfield Council worked to help make this a reality.

The Deputy Leader of Enfield Council, Cllr Achilleas Georgiou, said: “We are really proud of this new park and recreation area, developed after consultation with local people. As well as providing much needed green space, all of the play equipment and the sports area were also paid for as part of the deal. In times like these when every penny counts getting a wonderful facility like this, at no cost to the council, is great news.

“Bowes Meadow is a great new asset for local people to enjoy.”

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Daniel Anderson, said: “This is excellent news for Enfield and its residents. What was once private land is now public park land. With the facilities at the park, this helps deliver Enfield Council’s healthy living objectives by engaging more young people in sport and physical activity, and by getting them out into our green spaces.”

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety & Public Health, Cllr Krystle Fonyonga, said “This wonderful new park and open space is just the thing to support Enfield Council’s Move More campaign.

“The campaign is all about making small changes to your life so that you can be more active and you can do this whatever your age, level of fitness or disability.

“With such a wide range of sport and play facilities here, such as the multi use sports court and variety of interesting play equipment there is no excuse not to get out and be active.”
