Employment up in Cyprus by 0.6% and 2.7% in quarterly and annual basis in Q3 2016

The number of persons eòmployed increased in Cyprus by 0.6% and 2.7% in the third quarter of 2016, compared to the second quarter and the third quarter of 2015, according to Eurostat. That was one of the highest increases in the third quarter of 2016 compared with the previous quarter in the EU, along with Portugal (+1.3%), Spain (+0.8%), Luxembourg (+0.7%) as well as Ireland and Slovakia (both +0.6%).

 

Meanwhile the same index increased by 0.2% in both the euro area (EA19) and the EU28, compared to previous quarter and by 1.2% in the euro area and by 1.1% in the EU28 compared to the same period of 2015.

 

Eurostat estimates that, in the third quarter of 2016, 232.5 million men and women were employed in the EU28 (highest level ever recorded), of which 153.4 million were in the euro area (highest level since the fourth quarter of 2008). These figures are seasonally adjusted.
