AEK Larnaca and APOEL shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw on Saturday at the new AEK Arena in a game which was marred by the serious injury to Spanish midfielder Joan Tomas.

League leaders AEK had lost Tomas to a serious ankle injury which saw the veteran Spaniard taken to hospital. To make matters worse for AEK, Brazilian midfielder escaped Daniel Mojsov and Mino to give APOEL the lead on the hour.

But the celebrations were short-lived as AEK equalised six minutes later.

Mojsov’s attempt on goal was headered in by Andre Alves who grabbed a point for his AEK side that remain two points above second place champions APOEL.

Disgruntled AEK fans through fake money notes during the game containing pictures of coach Thomas Christiansen – who left the Larnaca club after two seasons in the summer to join title rivals APOEL.

In other games, John Carver’s deadly duo of Cillian Sheridan and Matt Derbyshire – who scored twice – were on hand to see off Aris Limassol 3-1 in Nicosia while Ethnikos Achnas’ Nika Kacharava was the star of the show as hit ended his goal drought by hitting all four goals in his side’s 4-2 win over Karmiotissa.
