The white – headed duck is one of other rare birds seen at the lake last month such as a pelican and white storks, the press release says.

The duck is included in the endangered species list of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

Such sightings constitute a reminder of the importance of preserving, protecting and managing the areas belonging to the Natura 2000 network, the press release notes.

The Larnaca Tourism Development Company has announced that birdwatching events take place every Monday morning at the lake and are scheduled to continue until the end of April. For this purpose it has recently purchased telescopes.
