Location filming in Enfield has finished for New Line Cinema’s “The Conjuring 2” and work to restore the street featured to its natural state is well underway. The highly anticipated follow-up to director James Wan’s 2012 hit is set for release on 17 June 2016, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
“The Conjuring 2” brings to the screen another real case from the files of renowned demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren, drawing inspiration from the 1970s-era story of the Enfield Poltergeist. Cast and crew spent around a month shooting on location in Enfield, with filmmakers working with Enfield Council to transform a suburban road into an authentic looking 1970s street.
Enfield Council leader, Cllr Doug Taylor, said: “It was incredibly exciting to have a major Hollywood film shooting in the borough and we are very much looking forward to seeing the finished product next year.
“This project was a fantastic example of New Line, Warner Bros., Enfield Council, residents and a wide range of organisations working together constructively to minimise disruptions and make this project work, and I hope this will be the first of many such collaborations.”
“The Conjuring” stars Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson who reunite with director James Wan for another chilling chapter from the Warren case files.
Reprising their roles from the original film, Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga (“Up In the Air,” TV’s “Bates Motel”) and Patrick Wilson (the “Insidious” films) star as Lorraine and Ed Warren, who, in one of their most terrifying paranormal investigations, travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.
The film follows the phenomenal worldwide reception of Wan’s “The Conjuring,” which marked the largest opening ever for an original horror movie and remains the second-highest grossing original horror movie of all time, second only to “The Exorcist.”
Rounding out the cast are Frances O’Connor (TV’s “The Missing”) as the single mother, with Madison Wolfe (TV’s “Zoo”) and newcomers Lauren Esposito, Patrick McAuley and Benjamin Haigh as her children, along with Maria Doyle Kennedy (TV’s “Orphan Black”); Simon Delaney (TV’s “Roy”); Franka Potente (TV’s “The Bridge”); and Simon McBurney (“Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation”).
The screenplay is by Chad Hayes & Carey W. Hayes & James Wan and David Leslie Johnson, story by Chad Hayes & Carey W. Hayes & James Wan. Peter Safran and Rob Cowan, who previously collaborated with Wan on “The Conjuring,” are producing.
Wan’s behind-the-scenes team is led by Oscar-nominated director of photography Don Burgess (“Forrest Gump,” “42”), and Wan’s “The Conjuring” collaborators, production designer Julie Berghoff, editor Kirk Morri, costume designer Kristin Burke, and composer Joseph Bishara.
