Lisa Rutter, Councillor and Former Mayor of The London Borough or Barnet, has been running Dementia club sessions weekly at the Finchley Memorial Hospital since August 2013. She runs the Alzheimer’s Society session and also the Saracens Dementia club which was launched on 1st April 2015.  These have been very successful because unfortunately there are a lot of people who are suffering with dementia.

Councillor Rutter has now formed a new charity called Dementia Club UK and will be starting to run a new dementia club session at The Britannia Cypriot Community Centre, Britannia Road, North Finchley N12 9RU, starting on Monday 18th January 2016 from 2pm -4pm and then every third and fourth Monday of every month thereafter.

People suffering from Alzheimer’s and other forms of Dementia are welcome to attend with their carers.

Each session aims to provide you with professional advice and information, gentle exercise and fun activities in a social atmosphere with cups of tea/coffee and lovely cakes.

Professional speakers will attend the sessions and also a GP and nurse attend the sessions to answer any medical concerns.

Cllr Rutter told Parikiaki, “Dementia is a terrible disease and worse than cancer. As more people are living longer, this has become a growing concern. I am trying to help not only the people suffering with dementia but also the carers.”
