Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot party leaders or their representatives met on Wednesday for their regular meeting at Ledra Palace, in the UN controlled buffer zone, with Slovak Ambassador Oksana Tomova, saying that they had a constructive discussion.

The meeting, under the auspices of the Slovak Embassy, was chaired by the Democratic Rally party (DISY), and its President, Averof Neophytou.

Reading the Joint Communique, at the end of the meeting, Tomova said that the parties “constructively expressed opinions on the issue proposed by the hosting party”, DISY, titled “A better Cyprus, a united Cyprus”.

According to the Ambassador, the next regular meeting of the leaders and representatives of the political parties will be held in February 2016, at Ledra Palace, and the exact date will be announced in due time.

As CNA learns, the meeting was held in a positive atmosphere, with all sides agreeing that it is up to the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus for a breakthrough in settlement talks.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. UN-led talks, aiming to reunite the island under a federal roof, resumed last May.
