The Barbican in London was the venue for the national Event Photography Awards 2015 on Thursday 16th April, where local man Antony Alexandrou from East Finchley beat the odds and won the prestigious award ‘Wedding Photographer of the Year 2015’.

His winning images are now on display at The Barbican.

The story behind the winning photos is both fascinating and touching. He won with a stunning photo of doves being released over Richmond. The picture shows the bridal party releasing doves in memory of the bride’s mother to signify love and peace. The bride holds her brother’s baby to represent new life.

The judges said about the winning image, called doves, “as far as capturing a one-off moment, this is genius – a proper work of art”.

Antony, whose company is called 3A photography, said about the award “It was a big surprise and also very humbling to be recognised for what I do by the industry.”

In a double-whammy he also scooped 2nd prize on the night for another of his images. Antony’s photo of a groom being thrown in the air in jubilant celebration by his best friends to mark the beginning of a new chapter in his life, was also runner up – so a double triumph for Antony who has a reputation as an accomplished wedding photographer.

Working in Hertfordshire, London and beyond Antony covers a wide area to photograph weddings and corporate events.

Antony who attended Watford Grammar School and then university in Birmingham where he achieved a 2:1 in Media Studies specialising in photography and video.
