The Cyprus Police raided on Monday evening the headquarters of the Cyprus Football Association, confiscating 27 computers, an external hard drive and a number of documents.

The investigation at CFA offices was concluded around midnight, following allegations for corruption.

CFA President Costakis Koutsokoumnis, speaking on Monday after the Association`s informal General Assembly, said he didn’t object to the Police raid and noted that the Association has nothing to hide.

Moreover, Koutsokoumnis, who presides CFA for thirteen years, stated later on Monday that he will not resign, while speaking to public television, CyBC. Moreover, he admitted that Cyprus football suffers from match fixing as the “red files” sent by UEFA are indicating.

CFA General Assembly, comprising the heads of the football clubs, met yesterday in the wake of allegations made by referee Marios Panayi, who claimed that officials in the Cyprus Football Association and officials from the Association of Referees are involved in match fixing and football league manipulation and wondered whether political parties might also be involved.

The Assembly will convene again in early January to discuss the appointment of an investigation committee to probe the allegations for corruption in football.

In statements following the two-hour meeting, Koutsokoumnis said CFA will wait until the Police completes its investigation over Panayi`s allegations.

He said finally that he invited the Presidents of the football clubs to report any information for any irregularities “because we should go all the way and whoever is involved should be held accountable.”
