Wales and Cyprus Teams in Cardiff for Euro qualifier

January

The KOPA Football League began with Rizokarpasso at the top of the First Division with New Salamis second and Brotherhood leading the second division and Arachne second spot.  AEL were top of the table in Cyprus with their Limassol rivals Apollon second and Olympiakos led the table in Greece.

 

17 year old Harry Kyprianou was on the bench for Watford for their FA Cup game versus Bristol City.

Also in tennis Petros Chrysochous made it to the last 16 of the Australian Open Junior Championships.

Australian Cypriot skier Lydia Ierodiaconou wins a bronze medal for Australian in the Winter Olympics in Sochi. KOPA League team New Salamis do us proud in Cyprus in their two games firstly versus New Salamis (Cyprus) losing 2-1 and then beating Anagenissis Derynia 8-2.

March

Cyprus football matches postponed after an attempted bombing attack on a top Cypriot referee. Omonia U14’s win the Middlesex Cup and AEK U13’s win the AFA Cup.

KOPA League organise trip to Cardiff in Wales to see Wales v Cyprus Euro qualifier

April

Brotherhood  win the KOPA League Second Division Championship followed by Anorthosis and Arachne both getting  promoted to the First Division. UK Cypriot Paul Economides wins the WBF International Super Bantamweight crown.

Cyprus National Football manager Bambos Christodoulou visited the UK and met with officials of the KOPA Football League.

May

KOPA League team Tripimeni won the LFA Challenge Cup beating Turkish Cypriot team Yalova 2-1. Apoel became KOPA League First Division Champions 2013/14. Also in the KOPA League New Salamis won the the KOPA Challenge and Divisional Cups and on both occasions they beat Tripimeni by the same 4-0 score making them double cup winners.

Olympiacos Youth won U15’s Spring Cup. Omonia Youth celebrate 20 years with a big function at the Hilton Wembley  and U10 Omonia Youth win the Spring Plate.

Apoel v AEL Championship leveller in Cyprus was abandoned in the 50th minute when AEL fans threw crackers on the pitch previous to that objects were also thrown on the pitch by Apoel fans. The Cypriot Football League decided that the game had to be played again.

Also Apoel celebrated their 20th Cyprus Coca-Cola Cup triumph after beating first time finalists Ermis Aradippou 2-0 at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia.

The UK Cypriot Golf Society play one of their Annual tournaments in Aphrodite Hills in Cyprus.

June

Apoel  Champions in Cyprus after beating AEL in the controversial League replay. Marcos Baghdatis wins AEGON Tennis Trophy in Nottingham. The Koumourou siblings come home with medals from the British Judo Championships, Luke a Gold and Leya and Danny a bronze each.

World Cup kicks off in Brazil with Greece reaching the knock out stages but a disappointing World Cup for Portugal, Spain and England.

Australian Greek Nick Kyrgios shocks the Wimbledon Open by beating Rafael Nadal in the fourth round. Germany thrash hosts Brazil 7-1 in the World Cup Semi Final and go onto win the World Cup by beating Argentina in the final.

Ex Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri is made Greece National coach.

Cyprus do well in the Commonwealth games George Achilleos winning gold in the shooting , a gold for Dimitris Minasidis in weight lifting and a silver for Andreas Krassias in Judo.

UK Cypriot youths  Anthony Georgiou and Zenon Stylianides shine for Spurs in Euro Tournament. Cypriot tennis  star Marcos Baghdatis wins Vancouver Open.

Ermis Aradippou beat Apoel in the Cyprus Super Cup 2-1.

September

Former Liverpool star Arne Riise signs for Apoel from Fulham. Swansea sign James Demetriou from Nottingham Forest. The Cyprus National Football team are heroes in Bosnia where they won 2-1 in a Euro qualifier. Cyprus had not won a international game since 2012.

Omonia win the KOPA League Seven a side defeating Arachne in the final.

October

Hundreds of UK Cypriots made the journey to Cardiff in Wales where they saw the Cyprus National Football Team put up a brave fight to lose to Wales 2-1 in a Euro qualifier.

November

Ranieri goes after Greece’s defeat versus Faroe Islands. Cyprus National rugby team saw their world record winning streak of 24 games ended by Latvia. Cypriot Golf Society celebrates 25 years with a function at South Herts Golf Club.

Messi nets treble as Barcelona beat Apoel in UEFA Champions League.

December

KOPA League team New Salamis reach last 16 of the FA Sunday Cup and also lead the First Division with Omonia in second spot.Cetinkaya Cinar lead the second division  with Maronites second and KLN third. In Cyprus football Apollon lead the first division and AEL in second spot also in Cyprus allegations of Cypriot football corruption are being investigated.

In the Greece Super Football League PAOK are top with Olympiakos second.

Cypriot Darts player John Michael competes in the World Darts Championships at Alexandra Palace.
