We’ve seen people call the police because they were trapped in a maze.

We’ve seen a man call the police over a Tesco van (‘people in this village don’t shop at Tesco!’)

We’ve even seen someone call the police because the settings on their PlayStation 4 were changed.

But one man’s ‘emergency’ call makes all of the above look quite reasonable: he rang 999 because his pizza was late.

As call handlers prepare for a busy Christmas period, Greater Manchester Police have released four recordings of irresponsible 999 calls to warn people to think before they dial the number.

And in one 53-second clip, a hungry man tells the operator that he’s been ‘ripped off his food’.

‘I would like to report it to the police, please,’ he says.

‘I ordered a pizza 45 minutes ago and it’s still not been delivered to me.’

Showing incredible patience, the operator informs the man that no, ‘it’s not a police matter’ and he should call the manager of the pizza place.
