Larnaca was counting the cost Sunday of heavy rain that swept across the town the previous day causing flooding, power cuts and general mayhem.

The unprecedented severe storm in Larnaca saw motorists trapped in their cars, premises flooded, roads closed, cars swept away by the rushing waters, and while there were power cuts in various areas.

Police and the Fire Department were inundated with emergency and had to call for reinforcements from other districts .
The Fire Service was out in full on Sunday aided by Civil Defence teams and  Larnaca Municipality clean up crews.
By Sunday morning the Fire service had received more than 200 calls and seven crews are still working to pump water from flooded premises, mainly from basements.
Extreme weather phenomena gripped the town from Saturday afternoon with emergency crews responding to a large number of calls for assistance to pump water from ho,es, tackle blocked roads and evacuate people from flooded premises and cars.
