FA Sunday Cup

Third Round

New Salamis 5 Thurmaston 1

New Salamis did the KOPA League proud by progressing to the last 16 of the FA Sunday Trophy which is the all England Cupit is where you will get all the top Sunday teams from around the country playing. The final is played in prestigious stadiums such as Anfield the home of Liverpool FC.

They did it in style on Sunday when they played Thurmaston a top team from Leicester.

New Salamis led from the third minute with a goal from Chris Xiouris when from a cross from the right he was able to tag on to it and slot the ball home. In the 12th minute they added a second with a goal from Stuart Zannori who tapped the ball home after a scramble in the Thurmaston defence.

The third goal came from Deniz Mehmet  when he took on three players before slotting the ball home and giving the red’s a  3-0 half time lead.

New Salamis were still thriving for goals and started the second half when Steve Velandia added a fourth goal straight from a corner and Deniz Mehmet scored the fifth with a brilliant goal when he dribbled past five players and smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

This puts them in to the last 16 and keenly waiting to see who their next opponents are.

First Division

Brotherhood 0 Aradippou 0

Brotherhood with their mighty goalscorers Aaron Kennedy and Nick Salapatas and their reputation for scoring goals they could not break down the Aradippou defence who really held their own and created good chances too.

Livadia 7 Arachne 0

A win that Livadia really needed and plenty of goals to go with it which lifts them to fifth place. What can I say about Arachne they have really good players and I notice that when they get two goals behind instead of having an attitude of when the going gets tough the tough get going they actually  drop their heads they really need someone to tell them that they are great players because on their day they can beat anyone so they need to sort themselves out and maybe we will see a new Arachne in the new year.

Livadia are now producing football that we remember them for from last season and I think they will be upsetting the big teams in the New Year.

Livadia were ahead 4-0 half time and added another two in the second half but Arachne lost their discipline in the second half when they had three players sent off within ten minutes.

Livadia’s goals were scored by Andreas Kyprianou 3, Elia Katsoloudi, Luke Demetriades, Shane Williams and Ilyas Cil.

Anorthosis 9 Olympia 1

Anorthosis maintain their good run and inflicted a heavy defeat on Olympia this means they are the second to New Salamis as  leading scorers in the first division their scorers were Alexandros 4, Vasos 3, Photis and Theo one each. Half time score was 2-0.

Second Division

Cetinkaya Cinar 3 Asha 0

Zaine Martin’s first start for Cetinkaya Cinar and it took him 1 minute to get on the scoresheet, a good move resulting in a deflected shot for 1-0.  20 minutes later, Asha must of been thinking they were in for another mauling at the hands of Cinar, with Zaine Martin involved again, laying a pass to the speedy Kerim Raies who knocked the ball past the Asha defender and then unleashed a delightful curler from 20 yards for 2-0.  Asha battled back and had a couple of chances but failed to find the net.

The second half was more of an even affair, but it was Cinar who extended their lead on 65 miniutes, when Kerim’s 40 yard free kick found Tarik kucuk unmarked who headed past the Asha keeper for 3-0. A win that takes Cetinkaya Cinar to the top of the league for Xmas.

KLN 3 Achna 1

KLN are keeping on track with getting promoted with a good win over Achna taking them to third spot four points behind the second division leaders Cetinkaya Cinar with two games in hand and one point behind Maronites and a game in hand over them.

They started off bad and they were shaking when Achna held onto a 1-0 lead till half time with a goal from Kurtis Spencer when a Achna free kick led to a scramble in the opposition penalty box and Kurtis was there to slot the ball in.

The second half KLN were a different team and got on top in the 50th minute when from a corner George Hajigeorgiou headed the ball which bounced off a Achna defender and George was able to connect and score on the rebound. Ten minutes later Jake Laoudas shot first time into the top right hand corner making it 2-1. In the 70th minute Chris Papacosta put the final dent with a right footed volley.

Pantel 1 Komi Kebir 0

Pantel are also still in the running for promotion they just need to be more consistent. A good win over Komi Kebir who are still struggling to get off the bottom position they have several new players and they are waiting for them to blend but one thing I notice about them they are not leaking alot of goals they just need to be more potent up front.

Pantel’s  goal was scored by Marley and gives Pantel hope for the new year.
