The British High Commission is organising a friendly football game on Monday to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the Christmas game played by allied and German soldiers fighting in the trenches during WWI.

It was Christmas 1914 when British, French, and German soldiers put their weapons down and called an unofficial truce to engage in a game of football.
The Nicosia game will be played in the buffer zone pitting United Nations soldiers and diplomats serving on the island against a Cypriot team with players from the Greek and Turkish communities.
Kick off is at 2.30pm behind the Home for Cooperation (H4C).
