The European Commission has earmarked more than 30 million euros for the Turkish Cypriot community, it was announced here today.

“Having in mind the ultimate goal of facilitating the reunion of Cyprus, the European Commission approved a new one year program of economic assistance for the Turkish-Cypriot community, of 32.960.000 euros,” the Commission said.

This budget will focus on the enhancement of the economic unification of the island and the improvement of the contacts between the two communities and the EU.

The financing, it noted, will give special attention to the environment, including the waste water collection and the solid waste management, the preparation of the Turkish Cypriots for the incorporation of the community aquis in light of a comprehensive solution and the direct help to communities of the civil society and local communities.
