A new study by the Cyprus Football Association (CFA) has shown that only 26.2% of players that played in the first half of the local football season are Cypriot nationals. The survey looked into the 255 different footballers that have featured for 12 clubs of Cyprus’ top division which also revealed that league leaders and current champions APOEL used the most number of different players (23) while Nea Salamina (19) used the least.

The figures also showed that out of the 255 players used, 188 were not Cypriot meaning that only 67 (26.2%) were local players. Newcomers Othellos Athienou used the most number of Cypriot players (9) while Doxa Katokopia have yet to field a Cypriot player. Despite being more Cypriots getting first team playing time in the top division this season, Cyprus remains the top of the charts when it comes to the domestic league with the most foreign players.
