On 14 November 2014, Cypriot twin brothers Andreas and Nikos Kafouris from the occupied village of Yialousa, together with the support of their friend Elenitsa Andreou, of Ayios Amvrosios, Kyrenia, protested opposite 10 Downing Street, Whitehall, to condemn the anniversary of the 1983 unilateral declaration of independence (UDI) of the pseudo-state.

The brothers told Parikiaki that they decided to protest near the Prime Minister’s residence as they believe “nobody hears our message for Cyprus outside the Turkish Embassy as nobody passes by there!”

They added that they received a lot of attention and were able to give out around 100 leaflets to passersby who knew nothing on the Cyprus problem.

Nikos said, “We clearly put Cyprus’ case out there and called for sanctions on Turkey. We want the community to know we are trying to get our message out more proactively and to a wider public.”
