The body of a man has been discovered in a river running between Hornsey and Wood Green.

Officers were called by passers by who spotted him lying in the water at 12.17pm next to the Kinnear Apartments, in the New River Village Estate.

The pensioner was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

“At this stage the death is being treated as non-suspicious.”

The New River pathway was closed off as officers tried to identify the deceased.

A police spokesman said the identity of the man was now known, but needed to be confirmed.
