“Unfortunately, the Turkish position regarding the crisis that was created by “Barbaros” in the Cyprus EEZ remains unacceptable, because it aims not only to the joint management of the hydrocarbons in the south EEZ of Cyprus, but also at the abolishing of the legal entity of the Democracy of Cyprus”. That was the stated by Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, after his meeting with Evangelos Venizelos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, which took place on the margins of the Council, in Brussels.
Kasoulides and Venizelos discussed the Cyprus issue and the Greek – Turkish relations, in light of the recent Greek – Turkish meetings that took place in Athens and Salonica.
The council of Foreign Affairs discussed mainly the situation in Syria and Iraq, and the actions of the so called Islamic State in the area. During the debate, Kasoulides talked mainly about the issue of Syria, stressing the need for alternative approaches  from the EU regarding the efforts for a return to stability in the country. In this context, Kasoulides noted that the views and ideas of the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the UN for Syria, De Mistura, constitutes a good starting point.
