The Republic’s Embassy in the Ukraine is in constant touch with Cypriot citizens who are currently in the country, providing them with any help they may need, the head of Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus Stavros Avgoustides told today CNA.

Avgoustidis said there are currently 23 Cypriots, 9 of whom are students and the rest are there on business.

He said that everyone is in good health, no one wishes to return home and nobody needs any kind of help at present. “We have already helped some people who wanted to leave the country,” he added.

“We are monitoring the political situation in the country since it is still volatile”, he said, adding that the Embassy contacts Cypriot citizens on a daily basis, even twice a day.

Avgoustides also said that if the situation in the country worsens then “we will look into the possibility of repatriating Cypriot nationals”, noting that at the moment this is not the case.

He said that the competent services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are ready to offer any assistance needed to Cypriot citizens in Ukraine.

The FM official repeated the travel advice issued a few days ago by the Ministry urging Cypriot citizens who are permanent residents or intend to visit Ukraine to exercise extreme caution and limit their movements, monitor news reports (international and local) for any developments, and follow the instructions of the local Authorities.
