Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades has expressed the wish that what is just will prevail as far as the Cyprus problem is concerned.

President Anastasiades was speaking on Friday during a visit at Makario Hospital in Nicosia.

He wished that 2014 will be a year when the country will be able to recover from both economic problems as well as the Cyprus problem, the division and continued occupation of the island`s northern third since the Turkish invasion in 1974.

I would like to hope that as far as the Cyprus problem is concerned reason and particularly what is just will prevail, he noted, referring to the principles and values of the United Nations and the EU.

This way, he added, our country can follow a path to liberation, reunification and the creation of conditions of prosperity.

Cyprus was divided in 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Previous UN led efforts to reunify the island under a federal roof have been unsuccessful.
