Following Sunday’s party elections, Papadopoulos got  51.12% of the vote.

The incumbent DIKO president Marios Garogian, who had sought re-election, got around 48% of the vote.

DIKO is the junior member of the coalition government of President Nicos Anastasiades, who was elected in February 2013.

In the parliamentary elections of May 2011 DIKO won 15.76% of the vote. It participates in the 56 Member House of Representatives with 8 MPs.
