An earthquake shook Cyprus around 5.30 pm on Saturday. Initial reports state that the tremor was felt all over the island. People reported that they felt the earthquake, contacting radio stations and posting in social media outlets

Police said phone lines are flooded with people calling for information, police said.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismology Centre the epicentre of the 5.9-Richter quake was 208km north west of Nicosia in the occupied part of Cyprus

It also struck the  south of the Turkish province of Antalya. The quake caused panic, but no damage or casualties were reported.

The Istanbul-based Kandilli seismology center said the earthquake occurred at 5:21 p.m., and was centered some 84 kilometers (52 miles) southwest of the holiday resort of Alanya. It was also felt in the neighboring province of Mersin and throughout the island of Cyprus, where people reported items swaying inside their homes.

The Cyprus Geological Survey had a slightly different reading, saying the tremor measured 6.3.
