A 6.6 % increase in revenue from tourism recorded in October is a very encouraging development, Director General of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation Marios Hannides has said.

In a written statement issued Friday, Hannides welcomed the fact that income from tourism showed an increase of 16.6% in October this year compared to the corresponding period in 2012, saying this is a very encouraging development.

“This proves that despite any obstacles, the tourist sector resisted the economic crisis”, he pointed out.

He added that the CTO will intensify its efforts to achieve even more positive results.

The aim, he went on to say, is to include Cyprus in the World Tourism Charter, as a qualitative and competitive tourist destination that would in turn give a boost to the economy.

According to Cyprus’ Statistical Service, revenue from tourism reached €246,6 mn in October 2013 compared to €211,5 mn in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording an increase of 16.6%.
