Cypriot recognised for an honour in the New Years Honours List  2014. Dr Marios Papadopoulos. Founder and Music director, Oxford Philomusica. Receives an MBE for services to Music in Oxford. (London).

Speaking to the Parikiaki Newspaper Marios said “I wasn’t expecting it though I was notified at the end of November.

It is a great honour and I humbled to receive it. It reflects the achievements of the Oxford Philomusica as one of the leading orchestras in the UK as it celebrates its 15th anniversary. I am also proud that Cyprus is seen as having contributed to the cultural life of the UK”.

According to the book Greek Cypriots Worldwide a directory of whos’ who Marios was born 20th December 1954 in Limassol married to Anthie from Nicosia has two children Michael and Stella he attended the English School in Nicosia followed by City University in London where he became a Dr of musical arts.

Marios Papadopoulos is the Musical Director of the Oxford Philomusica appointed orchestra in residence at the University of Oxford. In October 2002 the Orchestra was launched with a concert at the Barbican. As a recognition of their work the orchestra was honoured at a reception at 10 Downing Street in April 2002 hosted by Cherie Blair. Appeared in Paris at Salle Gaveau, Athens, Queen Elizabeth Hall London. Mario has directed the London Mozart Players, The Royal Philarmonic Orchestra. He conducted the Magic Flute, Trovatone, the Marriage of Figaro, with the Greek National Opera.
