Cyprus’ new Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand Maria Michael has expressed the government’s appreciation for the principled position of the government of Thailand on the Cyprus problem and its respect to the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus.

Michael was speaking at an official hearing at the Palace in Bangkok on December 11, in the presence of Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, during which she presented her credentials to the King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej.

According to an official press release, Michael assured of the government’s commitment to make every effort to terminate Turkish occupation and reunite Cyprus, in the framework of a settlement that will be based on UN Security Council resolutions.

Furthermore, she informed the King and the Prince on current efforts to solve the Cyprus problem and recent initiatives taken by President Nicos Anastasiades, aiming at a breakthrough and at restoring the trust of the Cyprus people to prospects for a Cyprus settlement.

She conveyed to the Prince the wishes of the government and the people of Cyprus for the King, the government and the people of Thailand.

She noted the excellent level of diplomatic relations, the smooth cooperation and mutual support between Cyprus and Thailand in the framework of international organizations.

She referred to the need to further enhance the institutional framework of bilateral relations, by fulfilling pending bilateral agreements, to further boost direct dialogue and cooperation, both at the government and business level.
