Patients who may need to use more than one hospital in the area will now be able to travel for free between the sites.

A new free bus service between North Middlesex Hospital in Sterling Way, Edmonton, and Chase Farm Hospital in The Ridgeway, Enfield, and between Barnet Hospital in Wellhouse Lane, and the Enfield site will begin running on a one-year trial.

The move comes as part of the Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Clinical Strategy which is streamlining services at Chase Farm where maternity and accident and emergency services will be closed in the coming weeks.

Tim Peachey, interim chief executive at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals NHS Trust said: “The Trusts are running this service to see whether there is a need to provide transport between the hospitals.

“If these routes are popular with patients, we will have some hard facts and figures at the end of the trial. We can then use these in our regular talks with Transport for London where we review public transport access to local hospitals.”

Information about the bus service can be found on the hospital websites at www.northmid.nhs.uk and at www.bcf.nhs.uk
