Ross Konidaris has appeared in court accused of murdering his grandparents then setting fire to their house. This comes after their bodies were found inside their burning home in Yarraville Saturday morning.

The 24-year-old appeared in Melbourne magistrates court yesterday charged with one count of arson and the murders of Triantafillio and Stavroula Konidaris.

In court, the young man was flanked by guards and stood behind a protective glass screen. His family – a group of seven men and three women – were also present. Members of his family wept during the proceedings.

His Legal Aid lawyer requested that Konidaris receive a psychiatric evaluation as soon as possible, and added that this was her clients first time in custody.

Konidaris will remain in custody until a committal mention on April 18.
