A STRANGER shot and wounded a man who was in a car which became stuck on a muddy dirt road in the Famagusta district on Wednesday night, authorities said.
The man, 24, was sitting in the passenger seat and was accompanied by his 21-year-old friend who was driving when they ran into difficulties in the area of Frenaros and Vrysoules.
The two friends are thought to have been poaching, a police source said.
They were in a dark and remote area when a shotgun was fired at them from a distance of about 100 metres, police said.
A bullet grazed the 24-year-old in the eye area and he was given first aid in Paralimni hospital and later released.
Both friends have told the police they have no differences with anyone that could explain the shooting. They did not see the shooter and could not say where the shooter came from, police said.
Damage to the car is estimated at about €400. Famagusta police are investigating.
