The ACE raises the level!

Andreas “The ACE” Evangelou returned to the ring in an emphatic fashion on Saturday night at London Olympia. Boxing in his sixth bout and for the first time over six rounds and against a higher ranked opponent. His opponent Danny Couzens had only recently boxed for the Southern Area Title and therefore was expected to provide a very strong challenge to the ACE’s unbeaten record, but the ACE produced an outstanding performance.

The ACE started at an electric pace pushing Couzens back from the first bell, switching seamlessly between his orthodox and southpaw styles. By the second round Evangelou was dominating the bout with superb punch selections constantly causing the more experienced Couzens problems. The third round started in a similar fashion but one moment of real quality from Couzens found Evangelou caught absolutely flush by a vicious left hook, which caused the referee to give a standing eight count, Couzens immediately pursued Evangelou to try and finish the bout, but Evangelou showing great skill avoided the onslaught and in fact turned the round around by dominating the latter part of the round which had the crowd on their feet.

The ACE then really took control of the fight and had Couzens on the back foot for the rest of the contest, Evangelou’s superb physical shape really shone through as his phenomenal work rate overwhelmed his opponent and he finished the sixth round with Couzens on the ropes.

The referee scored the bout 58-55 and the ACE has now risen to no. 37 in the British rankings and is positioned superbly to challenge for a domestic title in 2013.
