THE MANAGING director of Pittas Dairies that produce cheese, yoghurts and other milk products yesterday admitted they were in negotiations with various quarters to save the company, which employs 200 people.

Reports surfaced yesterday that Pittas had suspended operations due to problems incurred through the financial crisis. Pittas said they were continuing efforts to solve various problems the company was experiencing. It is believed talks are ongoing with the banks with the aid of the agriculture ministry and the milk producers.

Milk producers have expressed concern over the company’s future saying Pittas receives 40 per cent of all sheep’s and goat’s milk, and 30 per cent of milk produced on cow farms.

They say if Pittas goes belly up, they will not be able to absorb the extra milk on the market.
