HOSPITAL campaigners are set to march through Enfield in protest at the decision to shut the 24-hour A&E and maternity unit services at Chase Farm.

The North East London Council Of Action, which campaigns for health services, has organised a rally with protesters marching from the war memorial in Chase Side, Enfield, at 1pm on Saturday December 10.

From there they will demonstrate through Enfield Town and finish up at St Paul’s Church Hall, in Church Street.

Activists leading the group say that they are prepared to “occupy Chase Farm Hospital” if the government refuses to listen to their demands to retain services.

Bill Rogers, the council’s secretary, said: “We want to rally the support for Chase Farm. We have been campaigning monthly for this, we have had petitions and we have marched time and again.

“The government promised when they were in opposition that they would not close services. They have not listened to local people. We are up for the occupation of Chase Farm.

“There have been people occupying Wall Street and people outside St Paul’s Cathedral. It is all part of the same thing and we will occupy Chase Farm.

“I went and spoke to the people at St Paul’s and asked them if they were with us. They said they were.

“We expect hundreds of people to come along,” added Mr Rogers. “We have lots of supporters so this is going to be really big.”
