Tripimeni through to last 16 of FA Carlsberg Cup

Tripimeni 5 Falcons 2: Tripimeni comfortably went through with a great performance versus the Cambridgeshire team Falcons. Tripimeni looked as if they could score every time they attacked they were two one up at half time with goals from Naim and Alfie Cox. After the break Tripimeni had several chances to increase their lead and it went against the run of play when the Falcons popped up and equalised. This had to be the goal of the match from the edge of the penalty box it flew straight into the corner of the net; the Tripimeni goal keeper had no chance.

This seem to spur Steve Sinottis team and they went out to score three further goals with another two from Alfie Cox and one from Karim. Tripimeni now go into the last 16 with a home game versus Reading team Dee Road Rangers to be played on Sunday January 22nd 2012. On Sunday Dee Road Rangers beat Surrey team Hazelhurst FC 5-0 away from home.

New Salamis 1 Lea Hall FC 3: It was the game of the London FA winners New Salamis  versus the Birmingham FA winners Lea Hall FC and what a game it was. It was a  very tough game for both sides. Lea Hall FC is  a very well organised team I can see them going all the way. New Salamis were not themselves with key player Steve Valendia missing. Lea Hall FC even had Sunderland star Craig Gardner’s brother playing for them. Lea Hall took the lead 1-0 with a well taken goal by Baird but within two minutes New Salamis equalised with a goal from Mario Georgiou. In the 88th minute Lea Hall had a player sent off for a second yellow card. The game ended 1-1 and they went into extra time New Salamis went down to 10 men when Costas went off injured due to the fact that the red’s had already used three substitutes. Lea hall took advantage straight away and scored from the corner with a goal from Brodie and then a final goal in the dying seconds.

TIUTA KOPA Division 2 Cup

Round 1

Maronites 1 Pendayia 4: In a game fit for a final, Maronites and Pendayia both fought to the end in an explosive Division 1 first round cup tie which saw 1 sending off, 2 penalties and 5 goals.

The first half was fairly even with both teams sharing possession and trying to break down the others defences but it was Pendayia, playing with the wind, who created more of the clear cut chances and it was the visitors who went ahead first when a corner from the left was headed in by Duncan Quigley. Maronites battled back and got level when they were awarded a penalty shortly before half time which Adam Ali despatched cleanly. Both teams continued to fight till the half time whistle but with the half drawing to a close a long range shot from Stel Chiotis was fumbled by the Maronites goalkeeper and Spiros Papadatos pounced on the loose ball and put it away.

The second half began physically and fast paced with both teams playing good football. Maronites, now playing with the wind took every opportunity to get the ball into their opponent’s box and kept the Pendayia defence busy, forcing them to make numerous headers and interceptions. The pivotal moment in the game came when Theo Vassiliou, already booked in the first half received a second yellow thus reducing Pendayia to 10 men. Maronites looked to make the extra man count and pelted the Pendayia goal with crosses and shots, but on a count attack Chris Andrea tucked away a good shot from near the penalty spot to give the visitors a 3-1 lead.

Maronites continued to push forward as the visitors defended doggedly and the home team had numerous chances to score, their closest chance came when a superb shot from outside the box hit the post. But it was to be Pendayia’s day as the ten men put the game out of reach when they were awarded a penalty and captain Vas Nicou slotted away his second penalty in as many weeks. Alex Athanassi

Division 2

Olympia 4 Cyprus Youth (KLN) 1 : Second placed Olympia keeping their promotion hopes up comfortably  beat the newly rejuvenated KLN. Olympia  were 4-0 up with their goals coming from Vince Rispoli, Antonis Pratsides , Andrew Chambi and Bashakas. KLN’s lone goal was scored by Mario Charalambides.

Achna 1 Arachne 2: With only one other game going on in division 2 this Sunday, struggling Achna and Arachne played a game that optimises the term “a game of two halves” as they both looked to move up the table while the other teams in the division were not playing league football this week.

Though little could separate the teams at times, it was Achna who seemed to take charge of the first half, playing the ball around nicely and creating a number of chances. Arachne too played some nice football as they spread the ball nicely down the wings but sadly their end product was not there and they failed to trouble the Achna goalkeeper. Just before the end of the first half, there was some good play down the right from Achna and a low driven ball across the top of the 18 yard box found Zack, who hit it first time and chipped it over the Arachne keeper.

The Arachne management must have lit a fire under their players feet during the half time interval because the visitors hit the ground running in the second half playing the ball around much better, creating better chances and goals from Darren Spyrou and Andy Marcou gave them a well deserved victory.
