A Greek Cypriot couple received prison sentences on Thursday after having been found guilty of attempting to smuggle drugs into Cyprus through Larnaca Airport.
Carolina Elzarou, 24, and Petros Tryfonos, 38, were sentenced to three and five and a half years respectively for their convictions of possession of illegal narcotics with intent to distribute.
They were arrested by customs officers on July 10 after sniffer dogs picked up the scent of drugs on them following a flight from Amsterdam via Athens.
A body cavity search revealed that Elzarou was carrying 120 grams of heroin and 35 grams of cannabis internally.
The judge said Tryfonos received a heavier sentence as he had seven prior convictions. Elzarou had one.
