Civil servants are staging a 12-your strike on Thursday, from 0700 till 1900 local time, as decided at an extraordinary meeting of representatives of the public sector trade union PASYDY, as a reaction to new measures approved by the House of Representatives.

The strike includes union members at hospitals and airports, with emergency staff on duty at the hospitals.

Furthermore, the air traffic controllers at the control towers of Larnaca and Paphos airports are on a 12-hour strike on Thursday, from 0900 till 2100 local time, protesting about the measures which do not include special clauses for the controllers.

The air traffic controllers` strike will affect all flights to and from the two airports, except the VIP, state, military, hospital, humanitarian, search and rescue, and emergency flights, and flights with technical problems

Civil servants have been called on not to work on December 18, when the local administration elections are set to be held
