Aris forced Panathinaikos’s first defeat in this season’s Super League on Sunday night, allowing AEK to go alone on top of the table, albeit having played one more game than second-placed Olympiakos and two more than Panathinaikos.

Aris won 3-1 in Thessaloniki thanks to goals by Danijel Cesarec in the 12th, Francis Dickoh in the 44th and Darcy Neto in the 48th minute, while Panathinaikos had temporarily equalised with Jean Alain Boumsong in the 38th.

AEK scored a hard-fought 1-0 win over visiting Kerkyra thanks to a Steve Beleck goal at the 76th minute, going one point above Olympiakos. The score would have been much bigger had it not been for a number of chances that went to waste for AEK, including hitting the woodwork twice.

Xanthi moved up to fifth by downing lowly Doxa Dramas 2-0 at Thessaloniki, as the Drama ground is not yet up to Super League standards. The Thrace club had Petros Mantalos and Mauro Poy to thank for their goals at the Kaftanzoglio Stadium. Doxa are still looking for their first goal in the Super League after four games.

PAOK followed up their 2-1 triumph over Tottenham for the Europa League last Thursday with a 2-2 draw at PAS Yiannina, dropping to sixth. Ibrahima Bakayoko scored twice for the hosts, but Stefanos Athanasiadis and Costin Lazar earned the Thessaloniki side a point.

Finally, Levadiakos and Panionios shared a goalless draw at Livadia.
