A 29-year-old Greek Cypriot man was remanded in custody for eight days on Tuesday in connection with the murder of a pregnant 24-year-old Moldovian woman and the death of her three year old daughter.
The man, said by police to be the victim’s boyfriend, was arrested yesterday afternoon after police discovered the two bodies at a beach near Yeroskipou, outside Paphos.
The victim, who was named as Yula Oborok, was found sitting in the driver’s seat in the car spotted by a passerby. She had sustained shot wounds to her face and stomach. Her little girl, Victoria, was found face down some 50 metres away. It was not immediately clear how she died.
Police said that they were waiting for the results of the post mortem, to be held today.
The victim, who was divorced and living with the Cypriot, was four months pregnant. She had been reported as missing by the boyfriend who works as a hairdresser and his mother late on Sunday night.
Police told the court that the suspect was extremely jealous and possessive, and this had led the couple to argue in the past. They said that in the past he had insulted and hit her, and even thrown her out of the house. Police said the suspect had also threatened the victim that he would kill her if she ever left him.
