Preparations for the UN Secretary General`s report on the peacekeeping mission to Cyprus (UNFICYP) are at their final stage, and the report is expected to be submitted to the Security Council on November 30.
Diplomatic sources told CNA that the Secretariat assures there will be no surprises and that the report will mainly deal with developments concerning the mission, while changes in its structure will be along the same lines.
The Cypriot diplomacy continued its contacts with the Secretariat in Nicosia and at UN headquarters, in order to make sure that the report will be of a technocratic nature.
The report is also expected to include a paragraph on the good offices mission, which, according to diplomatic sources, will be along the lines of the UN chief`s statement after talks at Greentree, New York, with the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus.
The Greek Cypriot side has said that the optimistic hue of the UN Secretary General`s statement, with references to progress at the negotiations, did not reflect the situation.
