The Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA) has issued a decree in which it states that, due to the damage at the Vassiliko power station, use of power generators is compulsory.

CERA notes that due to the emergency situation after the disastrous impact of Monday’s explosion on the nearby Vassiliko power plant, electricity production has been reduced by more than 50%.

As a result, those who have electricity generators are obliged to use them regardless of whether the state supplies them with electricity or not.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) Charis Thrassou has described the damage to the power station at Vassiliko as huge, noting that it may take billions of euros to restore.

The power station was destroyed by the shock wave caused by the deadly explosion at the Evangelos Florakis Naval Base.
