Defence Minister Demetris Eliades has set up a Special Commission to inspect all National Guard areas, where fuel and ammunition is stored.

The decision comes in the wake of a massive munitions explosion at “Evaggelos Florakis” naval base, which killed 13 people and injured dozens, and destroyed the island’s main power plant.

According to an official announcement, the Commission’s main task is to ensure that all storage rules and security measures are observed and that storage areas meet safety requirements.
