The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Nicholas Emiliou, has met the British Minister for European Affairs David Lidington, during a visit to London.

Emiliou briefed the British diplomat on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem and presented the positions of the Greek Cypriot side in view of the July 7 meeting in Geneva.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary reiterated the willingness and commitment of the Greek Cypriot side to achieving a just, viable and functional solution of the Cyprus problem as soon as possible and urged Britain to exert pressure on Ankara in order to adopt a constructive position in the talks on Cyprus.

They also exchanged views on Turkey`s EU accession course. Emiliou stressed that the government of Cyprus supports Turkey`s accession to the EU provided Ankara fulfills its obligations towards the Union, including those relating to Cyprus.
